Tabas underground coal mine is located some 85km south of Tabas town, Yazd province, Iran. Figure 1 shows the mine location. This mine is the first fully mechanised coal mine in Iran that produces 4000 tonnes of coal per day. A 4.13 m long roof core sample taken in E1TG revealed a frequency of siltstone and sandstone layering above the coal seam.
